Orphan Fever, the only girl to serve in the Order of Engineers, is assigned to assist archaeologist Kit Solent to discover the secrets of a mysterious locked room that belonged to the Scriven overlords before the people's uprising. As Fever works, she begins to experience memories that are not her own and discovers that she is being hunted.
