The kingdom of Tigana defeated the forces of Brandin--a king and sorcerer--and killed his son. In retaliation Frandin casts a spell on the land, killing many and decreeing that Tigana's name never again be spoken. Alessan, exiled heir to the Tigana throne, has gathered about him a small group of conspirators. The company travel as musicians and await the time they can reclaim their land.
