Who was Mary? How did a hard-working young peasant girl feel about becoming the mother of God, and later, seeing her firstborn crucified? Carlson uses flashbacks to retell the events of Jesus' life from his conception to his ascension. But more than just the facts, Carlson imagines Mary's emotions throughout her life and how her relationship to Jesus unfolded from mother/child to mother/Lord. This fictional story gives us a look into what might have been Mary's experience as the mother of God's own Son.
