When ordered by the Duke to "invent a roll that the sun can shine through three times" or else he will be banished from his home, Walter bakes all through the night trying desperately to create a solution to this puzzle. In his frustration, Walter accidentally creates the pretzel, which not only pleases the Duke and Duchess but all the people in his town as well.
