This is the story of 17 year old Jim, who writes cheerful letters home to his parents, glossing over the terrible experiences of the war, to keep them happy and hopeful for his return home. But we see what he does not mention - the mud, and the rats, lice and the stench of the trenches, death of comrades and the fear of what will happen.
