Pirate Pete is quite a character. He is in dire need of a new pirate crew, so he sails to Rascal Island to search for the crewmen. Once he gets there he tells what he needs and loads all the rascals up to see what they've got. Each and everyone have all the characteristics except the most imortant one - they have to talk like a pirate! Time and again he has rascals walking the plank. He complains to his pirate that non of them were good enough to be part of the pirate crew. They finally decide the two of them are all they need to be a perfect pirate crew. I thought this was a really cute book. The use of 'official pirate language' and the rhyming schemes used made it an easy and enjoyable read. I would love to use this book in class. I think it would go along great with a classroom pirate theme or unit. As an acitivity for the class, you clould break them into groups and have wach group decide what their crew must have. They could then act them out to the class. You could also take part of a book or story and make each group rewrite it using pirate language. Each group could then read it to the class and then take and overall vote to which story was the best.
