This great French painter became the leader of a group of avant-garde artists known for their use of brilliant, aggressive colors. He was preoccupied by the subject of the female model and painted innumerable fantasies of women in exotic costumes. He invented the techniqued of making pictures from pieces of colored paper cut out with scissors and in old age did mural and stained glass designs for a chapel at Vence -- one of the most acclaimed ensembles of church decoration of the 20th Century.
