On December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa refused to give up her seat for a white man, and started one of the most important events in the history of civil rights for Black Americans. Her determination and decision not to be intimidated when she knew she was within her rights was an act of individual courage that made a difference in her community and to her people.
