The respect the Japanese have for nature and their enjoyment of the serene and uncomplicated things in life are shown in the structure and furnishings of their homes, in their art, and in the popular pastime of writing haiku. Haiku is a form of unrhymed poetry consisting of three lines and seventeen syllables. It usually reveals a season of the year and often deals with nature.
