"I just didn't want to die" the 1914 Newfoundland sealing disaster

Título
"I just didn't want to die" the 1914 Newfoundland sealing disaster

Resumen
The history of sealing in Newfoundland, focussing on events of March 1914 when the S.S. Newfoundland lost 87 men to a storm when it became stuck in ice. The men left the ship and crossed the ice to the "Stefano", a vessel working a seal patch a few miles away. Later that day, the Stefano's captain ordered all 132 men back to their own ship, while he continued on. Each captain thought the men were safely onboard the other's ship, but the sealers were stranded on the ice. That evening a storm struck, with howling winds and freezing snow. When rescue arrived three days later, 78 men were dead and nine were missing. Features the prints and drawings of David Blackwood, along with archival photos, a ballad of the disaster, and interviews with survivors.
