Katie's father has remarried and she is quite put out when her dad and new step-mom announce they are having a baby. Sent off to her grandparents in Halifax for the summer while her parents go to Europe, Katie is soon caught up in another story. Each night she sees the shadow of a girl in her bedroom, a British War orphan who shares her life story with Katie.
