In the summer of 1949, the Metis families living on a road allowance near Lestock, Saskatchewan, were promised land, jobs and social assistance by government agents on the condition that they move to an experimental co-operative farm in the northern community of Green Lake. These families travelled over 500 kilometers in the hopes of a better future, but what they found in Green Lake caused them to leave in a matter of months.
