English author H. G. Wells is called upon to investigate alleged incidents of time travel in Victorian London after a young man tries to prevent his prostitute lover from becoming Jack the Ripper's fifth victim, and along the way Wells has a chance to save lives and to prevent such literary classics as "Dracula" and his own "The Time Machine" from being erased from history.
