The Loner is a boy travelling through the southern United States with no knowledge of his family and how he became an imigrant worker. Unable to read or navigate by himslf, he loses his way and ends up in Montana instead of California. There, he is discovered by Boss, a strong, independent-minded middle-aged woman. She gives him a name, a family, and a future.
