'The Rainbow, the Midwife, and the Birds' contains four Dene stories, as told by Raymond Yakeleya. The book also contains a Dene language translation of terms. Yakeleya is an award-winning Dene book author and television producer and director originally from Tulita (formally Fort Norman) in the central Northwest Territories.
