Introduces this son and grandson of sculptors. Calder was one of the most innovative and original American artists of the 20th Century. He created characters and animals using wood, wire, cloth and paper. He began to experiment with abstract painting and wire constructions which eventually led to brightly colored mobiles of painted cutout shapes connected by wires and set in motion by the wind which emphasize his fascination with time and movement.
