For undetermined reasons, the population of the Snowshoe hare rises and falls dramatically every 8 to 10 years. The repercussions of this cycle affect a great number of living things, from the vegetation that the hare eats, to the animals that eat the hare. Human endeavours, too, when the cycle is high, and trapping of fur bearing animals when it is slow.
