A spin-off from the film adaptation of his acclaimed novel The Lesser Blessed, this novel is centered on Darcy, a bully who gets sent off to a group home at the end of the movie. Only here, Van Camp imagines that the group home is full and Darcy is instead forced to go to jail. The novel, told in letters, finds the troubled young man writing to someone he used to bully who has locked himself in his bathroom for three days following the death of his mom.
